BEHIND THE BUILD
Project story
Completed in May 2026, this Warwick Neck, Rhode Island project rebuilt and expanded an existing coastal deck. The client wanted more deck area and reinforcement of the smaller deck outside the primary bedroom to support a planned three-person hot tub. Demolition exposed framing in rough condition, including sections that had been built poorly. The goal was to correct those conditions while keeping sound material where it could still serve. TKG selectively removed framing that could not remain, reinforced usable sections and integrated new pressure-treated lumber with older dry lumber. Because the existing lumber had already shrunk, aligning old and new work into one consistent plane was important to the finished decking. The scope included demolition, structural repairs, selected new footings, flashing and foundation/sill-plate repairs, new framing, stairs, decking and railing. TKG self-performed the work from demolition through finish installation. The completed deck uses TimberTech cellular PVC decking and trim with stainless-steel cable railing. The photos follow the original deck, exposed problem areas, framing and stair construction, and two finished views. The project shows how careful structural salvage and precise finish work can work together in an existing coastal home.
