BEHIND THE BUILD
Project story
In March and April 2025, TKG led a structural repair to the rear roof of an occupied home in Twentynine Palms, California. Approximately half of the roof-truss top chords along that portion had been damaged. The clients needed an engineered repair that would avoid a much broader roof and interior demolition. Working with its structural engineer, TKG selectively opened the upper rear roof assembly to reach the affected trusses while leaving adjacent areas intact. The repair reinforced damaged trusses with new select-structural lumber chords and plywood gusset plates in accordance with the engineer-directed approach. Field conditions were coordinated as the structure was opened. After the structural work, displaced electrical and HVAC services were restored, new blown-in insulation was installed and removed sheathing was replaced. A roofing subcontractor reassembled the tile roof. The sequence allowed the clients to remain in their home during construction rather than move out as the insurance adjuster had expected. According to the homeowner, the insurance payment exceeded TKG's construction contract by more than $25,000. That difference stayed with the homeowner. The photo sequence documents temporary site access, selective roof opening, the reinforced truss joint, enclosure work and substantially restored roofing.
